A Cardiff-headquartered retailer that sells outdoor leisure equipment has already seen its products sold in 30 countries just two month after its official launch.
BCB Adventure is the sister company of well-established design and manufacturer of survival equipment, BCB International, and represents the first time the business has expanded to sell its products online to the consumer market.
Some of the markets it is already selling to include Croatia, Cyprus, Germany, Romania and Sweden, and the business plans to continue driving its exports to help the business grow.
BCB Adventure offers a range of innovative products, many of which are developed and manufactured in Wales, and then sold to the trade or to online customers. One flagship product, Fire Dragon Gel Fuel, is manufactured in Llanelli and made from UK-sourced ethanol, which performs in all extreme weather conditions.
Janey Howell, managing director of BCB Adventure, said: “BCB Adventure was launched following strong consumer demand for the niche high-end products that we traditionally supplied to BCB International customers.
“It’s an exciting time for BCB Adventure. In less than two months we’ve established ourselves in the market and experienced growing demand for our products in more than 30 countries.
“We’re delighted that our products have been so well received, particularly across Europe, and we’re hoping that this momentum continues as the business grows during its first year.”
BCB Adventure is based at the BCB International premises in Cardiff, and created six new full-time jobs when it launched in April 2014.
BCB International has traditionally supplied survival products to the B2B trade, catering for maritime and military customers. Just last year it secured a US$250,000 contract with the Ecuadorian Navy to supply inflatable body armour, which was funded through a UK Export Finance Bond Support Scheme.
BCB Adventure sees many of its niche products available for consumers following growth in the outdoor leisure market. According to news and research portal, Just-Style, the European performance outdoor apparel sector is expected to be worth $7.8bn by 2018, an increase of $1.6bn from 2011.
Ms Howell continued: “BCB International is a well-established brand and has been creating its innovative products since 1854. Over the years we have experienced increasing interest in these products from the consumer market, and so BCB Adventure was launched.
“Our must-have products are for keen campers, festival-goers, and hiking enthusiasts. We’re selling eco-friendly flammable fuel for mountain stoves, crusader cooking systems, clothing, as well as sleeping and survival products.”
