Twelve Welsh companies have visited Dubai this week (2 – 8 May) as part of a trade mission to develop export opportunities within the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The multi-sector trade mission saw companies from the food and drink, energy and environment, construction and life science sectors travel from Wales to Dubai. Participants included Aberystwyth-based yoghurt producers, Rachel’s Organic, and renewable energy service company, Dulas, headquartered in Machynlleth.
More than 50 Welsh companies have benefited from the six Welsh Government-led trade missions to Wales’s third largest export market – the UAE – within the last 12 months.
With new construction, business and leisure projects being continually developed in the UAE, and the announcement of Dubai hosting Expo 2020, the export opportunities continue to increase for Welsh businesses.
One of the 12 companies visiting Dubai this week is Llanelli-based Dividers Folding Partitions, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of sliding folding partitions and glass sliding walls. The company is actively exporting to the Gulf and is returning to the market after exhibiting at the Big 5 in November 2014, the largest construction event in the Middle East.
Dennis Lewis, managing director of Dividers Folding Partitions, said: “The UAE is a key market for our business, and we are already exporting there. Big 5 helped us to raise our profile and develop new contacts, which we plan to follow up during this trade mission.”
Economy Minister, Edwina Hart, said: “The UAE is an extremely important export market for Welsh businesses and one that is creating new opportunities all the time. The Welsh Government is committed to helping Welsh businesses develop new export markets as way of creating growth and jobs.
“Since devolution there has been an increase of more than 100 per cent in Welsh exports, the highest of the four UK countries.”
