Trusted Data Solutions (TDS), a US company specialising in backup tape restoration and data conversion, has established its European headquarters in Nantgarw where it will create 16 highly-technical skilled jobs.
The company, which is headquartered in New York, has a growing UK client base that is serviced from the Wales office. The new European HQ will also act as a technical hub for the business’s planned expansion into Europe later this year.
It is the first office the company has opened outside of the US, and the investment has been backed by £350,000 business finance from the Welsh Government. Eight new posts have already been created and the team currently includes engineers, technical, sales and financial staff.
TDS is one of the leading providers of backup tape restoration, strategic tape discovery, big data migration, email processing, audio restoration and conversion services. Its services are provided to blue chip clients worldwide in support of litigation, compliance, risk management and disaster recovery.
TDS has recently signed a professional services agreement with Iron Mountain UK, a multi-billion dollar data management company with offices in 36 countries. Under the agreement TDS will provide tape restoration services on a partnership basis to a wide range of global organisations.
The new European HQ office was officially opened by Economy Minister Edwina Hart. Speaking at the launch event the Minister said: “TDS operates in one of our key sectors and is a welcome addition to our rapidly growing ICT sector, which includes a number of world-class businesses.”
TDS president, Chris Clark, said the company’s first experience of working in Wales came when it carried out a major investigation for a banking client in Cardiff, which involved the restoration of 30,000 backup tapes.
Chris Clark said: “When that project ended we decided to maintain a permanent presence in Wales. Our decision was based on the impressive workforce we found here – specifically the technical skills and experience that we need.
“We also welcomed the general economic climate of doing business in Wales and the support from the WG was also a major factor in our decision to build up our facility in Nantgarw.”
